Big Sky Coaches launched its intercity services called Big Sky Intercity and will now be operating throughout South Africa.

The launch of the Big Sky Intercity is the latest evolution for the Bloemfontein-based long-distance coach operator.

Big Sky has a fleet of 40 luxury coaches which will now operate and stop at all major towns across South Africa. The company launched its intercity service with twin events in Cape Town and Johannesburg on Friday 1 September.

The company states that its intercity service “offers our passengers safe, dependable and affordable travel throughout South Africa”.

The addition of an intercity service adds significantly to the Big Sky Coaches brand which had previously provided only charter and tour services focused on the central parts of South Africa.

Big Sky Coaches CCO Shaun Smeda said: “The addition of Big Sky Intercity further extends our significant operations and footprint and enables us to bring more top-class commuting services to more communities across the country.”

Big Sky Coaches has over 30 years industry experience in delivering exceptional transport solutions to thousands of passengers.

“This is a further step for us as a company, now operating within the long-distance coach intercity industry,” Smeda added.

Big Sky Intercity will operate between over 150 destinations across South Africa, including the major urban centres of Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The company’s fleet of modern coaches provide world-class standards in passenger comfort and safety. All coaches are equipped with the latest technology, including specialised safety equipment, heating and air conditioning, video and audio entertainments systems, on-board restroom facilities, super-soft reclining seats fitted with individual safety belts, and individual arm rests and reading lights.

Big Sky Intercity places passenger safety at the core its operations. It adheres to the highest safety standards and this is supported by operations at seven technical depots throughout South Africa where stringent safety checks are carried out before each and every departure.

Big Sky Intercity COO Stephan Hamman said: “A voluntary three-monthly certificate of fitness is performed in terms of Big Sky Intercity standards, instead of the prescribed six-monthly one required by law.”
